Hello all,

I've have downloaded and installed ORCAD 16.6 Lite but I get the following error when I start a PSPICE simulation:

"ERROR(15053): Can not initialize PSpice UI"

Does anyone know why this happens and how to solve it?

CREATE BOX CONCEPT HDL SCH

Hi All,

How to create box using drawing line in concept hdl?

 Regards,

Karthik.

Which simulator is best to use for Mixed-Signal Simulation?

$

0

For example I can have some HDL design compiled and implemented in Encounter Digital Implementation, then I can have that design imported in Virtuoso Encironment as a layout or higher level schematics symbol to be used together with another part of design which is analog.

However, which simulator is it better then to use to simulate the whole thing, by whole thing I mean my relatively big autoplaced/autorouted digital block from encounter + Hand made analog circuits?

For example if I want to just verify my analog-only blocks I'll use spectre, if I want to verify my digital logic and run timing analysis I'll use RC compiler + INCISIVE. But what about combined circuits simulation?

Obviously, using Spectre would take like infinite time (I remember simulating relatively small hand made digital circuits together with analog blocks, it took forever).

So which simulator, or approximate design/simulation flow should I look at then?

thanks

Is there away to get a list of keys in a association list?

 example:
test='(("XY_1" (0 60) ("XY_2" (0 60))
I want:
(XY_1 XY_2)

I want to be able to cycle through each key and manipulate the information.

I know I can get a list of keys in a table by mytable->? But this does not work for a list.

Thanks for any suggestions,

Jerry

Changing script parameters & "Replay" from skil function

$

Hi ALL,

1) How can I replay a recorded script   but with different parameters(different pick coordinates for example)?

2) I've defined Funckey for Skill function that replays script(axlShell("replay  C:\\Scripts\\Shape_Connection"), then I've tried the function using the

funckey from COMMAND LINE and got this:

W- Cannot exit current application
E- Form field label not found
E- Command not found: fillin GND
E- Form field label not found
E- No command active
E- Form field label not found

I entered the Skill MODE, typed Skill function name and it replayed the script(the script  creates solid shape with specified net, on specified layer, using 8 pick points)

The question is how can I replay script from inside Skill function being in COMMAND MODE?

Thank You All

Evgeni

 Dear All,

I have generated the .drl and .art files for my PCB for manufacture in Allegro 16.2.

But, I want to import them and verify that it actually properly generated.

Please tell me how I can import and verify that it is correctly generated.

Hi all..i am new to pcb design...i dont have knowledge in length matching the nets..length matching should be done between clock signal and data signal...can u pls tell me the procedure for length matching in allegro pcb editor ..or just send me the link for any tutorials or pdfs..thank u so much..

How to access metals which are connected to the metal I selected

Hello:

I want to write a skill code to calculate the metal‘s resistance in layout. The tool I use is candace 5.14.

I want to make this come true in the skill code:when I select the metal in the top cellview , the skill code can

trace all the metals which are connected to the metal I selected. I can access to all the metals and vias’ properties.

These metals and vias are may not in the same cellView level. They are hierarchy.

So I can calculate the whole resistance of  whole path which connected to the metal I selected!

Thank  you very much!

ORCIS-6085 Could Not read part information

$

Ok I'm not a user of Orcad CIS I am the IT guy supporting the people using it so forgive me if I use the wrong terms or have trouble explaining.

So our system is this

Using Version 16.5 have tested with 16.6 latest hotfix. Shared licenses hosted on a server.  Shared Library file(.olb) in a file share on the server, mapped in Capture through the Capture.ini file.  We also use CIP as the parts database.

Engineer makes the design the passes it to a tech.  The tech updates the parts in the design to match them with CIP.  If a part comes up red in Part Manger the Tech goes in and links the parts to the proper one in the database.  Then the Tech runs the BOM to send to our vendor to manufacture the board.
Now the issue,

Randomly

When the Tech right clicks the red lighted part and hits link part it brings up the link part window, we can see the single part in the DB or multiple parts that match it (looks to me like the list is generataed from the CIP DB), when he chooses the part we get an this error,
"Warning [ORCIS-6085] Could not read part information for XXXX." Then everything turns red.  We can update the part from the OLB file in the Cache, AND pretty sure it's getting the part list from CIP.  So I here are my questions

1. Where is it trying to look to get that part information if not the olb file or CIP?

 2. What would cause this?

3. Is there a place I can go to look what the ORCIS errors mean so I don't have to contact support or write these super long posts in this forum :)

Now when I say randomly it happens a couple times a week and nothing I do fixes it, we just have to wait 30 to 60 min and it clears up it self. I've checked the network for something using all the bandwidth, the servers aren't doing anything but serving files, no one is uploading or downloading huge amounts of data etc.

It also doesn't happen to everyone at the same time, one person can be in and working fine and someone else will be having this issue. I also happens when no one else is in!

PLEASE HELP before they string me up!

pss insufficient memory problem

Dear Team,

I am using virtuoso 6.1.5 version running pss, errors are found in the CDS.log window, sayin:"INFO (ADE-3069): Errors encountered during simulation. For more information, see the log files accessible from the Simulation -> Output Log menu."

But the spectre.out file shows "onv norm = 10.4e+03, max dV(M47:int_d) = 79.2508 mV, took 4.48 s."

I can only view the output log file errors by typing spectre spectre.out command in the console. I attached both spectre.out file I can see from virtuoso and file content I can see after spectre command in the console.

I have tried using 64-bit simulation enviroment, using swapfile for simulation as you suggested in other posts, and the machine I am using has around 6GB memory, 12GB swap.

Please take a look at both files and help me find out what the problem is. Thanks!

1. virtuoso spectre.out file

Schematic cdf value not displaying correctly

I have a script that sets the cdf value of a schematic symbol but it does not display the value correctly in the schematic cellview. When I look at the value from the property menu the values are correct. I have to toggle the variable on the property menu nil and back to t then values will display in the cellview correctly.

Is there a callback the property menu does when you hit apply/OK that I need to add the script. Or am I missing something in the script to update the schematic cellview.

Some different examples I am trying:

procedure(stdLib_getPcellCdf(obj var)
let(    (cdfVal)
foreach(cdf cdfGetInstCDF(obj)~>parameters
        if(equal(var cdf~>name) cdfVal = cdf))
cdfVal
); end of let
); end of stdLib_getPcellCdf

procedure(stdLib_setPcellCdf(obj var val) stdLib_getPcellCdf(obj var)~>value = val )

procedure(chngSymVal(cv)

foreach(a cv~>instances

cd=cdfGetInstCDF(a)

foreach(param cd~>parameters
if(equal("multidesign" param~>name) then param~>value=t hiFlush() )

))

schCheck(cv)

dbSave(cv)

Defining a string parameter in a systemverilog model as a design variable

Hi, I have a systemverilog module with a string parameter:

parameter string filename = "default_name";

When I instantiate this module and edit its object properties, I see the filename property. Whatever I write into this field is passed as a string to the module. Is it possible to define a design variable (which value I can control in ADE) and pass this design variable to this field?

The motivation is to be able to provide a unique filename in a parametric analysis. Otherwise, the file will be overwritten for each simulation.

How do I get OrCad to recognise a component from one of their supplied libraries?

Greetings all,

I am using OrCad Capture 16.5.  One of the parts libraries in the level above pspice is called "discrete.olb".  Within that library is a relay called G6A-DL-DPDT.  There is no problem selecting it and placing it on the schematic.  There is no problem connecting to it.  However, when I run the simulation, I get a bunch of "Less than 2 connections at node" errors.  These turn out to be the wires connected to the relay.  I then notice that they have added a green circle on the upper left corner of the symbol.  This shows a "No pspice template for the device.".

If this is a supplied library and a supplied device, shouldn't it actually work with the software?  Or, am I missing a step that I have to move "discrete.olb" to some other folder for OrCad to actually use the device?

Thanks for the help,

 Mark

Yellow cursor that shadows mouse pointer in schematic editor

In the Virtuoso schematic editer, there is a yellow cursor that follows the tip of the mouse pointer and stays on the current grid snap spacing.  The yellow cursor is usally a small square, but changes to a representation of a symbol when placing an instance.  Are there skill functions available to be able to manipulate the yellow cursor and be able to change its shape or even its position?  I have looked through every function reference that I can find, and searched through these forums and other places with no luck.  I would also be happy if I could find a way to draw a temporary shape such as the yellow cursor in an arbitrary location in the window that I can move around.

What I am trying to do is create a specialized instance placement tool that will only allow instances of cells to be placed in specific locations other than on the current grid snap.  I want to be able to calculate the appropriate locations in my skill code, and have my custom yellow box jump to the closest calculated location that mouse pointer is near.  This is just for visual verification of where the actual symbol will be placed when the mouse button is clicked.

 Thanks for any help

VerilogA: report DC voltage

I would like to make a component with a VerilogA model, doing the following:

The component has one voltage input pin (let's call it 'A').

During a DC sweep analysis, an output file is opened at the start of the analysis.  At each anlysis point, the DC voltage on node 'A' is reported in the file.  Then, after the DC sweep analysis is completed, the file is closed.

 How can I do this?

Cadence IC5.1.41 libInit.il

Hi,

I wanted to know is it possible to overwrite the libInit.il file, which is specified in the project area by a local version of the same??
I am actually trying to load a user defined set of "modelPath"s for the analog design environment. So i have another skill script in my local area to do that (this is loaded using .cdsinit). But the libInit.il file in the project area, that is sourced whenever i open the library manager, overwrites the "modelPath"s by loading a script in the project area.

Any suggestions how this can be done?

Any other suggestions on how to add some default set of "modelPath"s for the ADE?

Thanks
